What is the Daye Award?
University Recreation began the Daye Award in 2001 to recognize Dean Barbara Daye and her accomplishments at Appalachian State University. Daye is an Appalachian State alumna, a valuable member of the faculty and administration, and a dedicated friend to the students. She is a continued supporter of University Recreation, and we are so appreciative of all her contributions to our department.
The Daye Award recognizes undergraduate student employees within University Recreation who assert excellence in sincerity, loyalty, integrity, dedication, and stewardship for our department and Appalachian State University.
Daye Awards will be awarded in the following categories:
Aquatics | Student employees include Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, and CPR/First Aid Instructors. |
Facilities & Operations | Student employees include Facility Supervisors, Member Services, Office Operations, Maintenance, and Facility Techs. |
Fitness & Communications | Student employees include Personal Trainers, Group Fitness Instructors, Connect Crew, Creations Crew, and Graphic Designer. |
Outdoor Programs | Student employees include Outing Center, Climbing Wall, Bike App, Team Building, and Trip Leader. |
Sports Programs | Student employees include Official/Scorekeeper, Sports Supervisor, and Club Sports Executive Officers. |
Inclusion & Access | Student employee who demonstrates a commitment to ensure everyone has an opportunity to engage and thrive. |
Student Centeredness | Student employee who demonstrates a commitment to nurturing staff sense of belonging. |
Wellbeing & Recreation | Student employee who demonstrates a commitment to inspiring and empowering a vibrant, active, and healthy App State Community. |
UREC Spirit (2 awards) | Student employee who demonstrates a commitment to UREC programs and services,. They contribute to our culture of care, advocate for our brand across the campus community, and are dedicated to their work at UREC. |
