Aquatics Positions

All positions worked at the Student Recreation Center Natatorium. The Assistant Director for Aquatics supervises each position.

 

Lifeguard

Summary Routine cleaning and disinfecting procedures will be conducted regularly. Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the Appalachian State University natatorium; act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency. Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
Hours Minimum of two scheduled shifts per week or 4 hours per week; Average 4-15 hours per week.
Salary $8.25 per hour
Duties Lifeguard Duties
Required qualifications
  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, First Aid Certification
  • Reliable, responsible, excellent communication and time management skills

Pool Instructor

Duties Pool Instructor duties
Required qualifications
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or experience teaching swim lessons.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to demonstrate skills in swim lesson instruction.
  • Ability to work independently with energy and enthusiasm.

Swim Instructor

Summary Provide swim lessons/ private or group to adults of all levels and abilities based on American Red Cross (ARC) standards and program requirements.
Hours Minimum of two classes/lessons per week between the hours of 4pm-6pm MW or TR
Salary $8.25 per hour
Duties Swim Instructor knowledge, skills, and responsibilities
Required qualifications
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or experience teaching swim lessons
  • Knowledge of and the ability to demonstrate skills in swim lessons instruction
  • Ability to work independently and possess energy and enthusiasm.
  • Certification in the above preferred.
