Lifeguard (Work Study & Non-Work Study positions available)

Summary The Lifeguard is primarily responsible for maintaining constant surveillance of participants in the Appalachian State University swimming pool.  Acts immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of participants in the event of emergency. Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
Hours The Lifeguard will work between 6-15 hours per week during the academic year (up to 35 hours per week during summer sessions).
Salary $11.25 per hour

Required qualifications
  • American Red Cross, Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, First Aid Certification or equivalent

  • Reliable, responsible, excellent communication and time management skills


Swim Instructor (Work Study & Non-Work Study positions available)

Summary

The Swim Instructor is primarily responsible for maintaining constant surveillance of participants in the Appalachian State University swimming pool.  Acts immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of participants in the event of emergency. Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.

Hours The Swim Instructor will work between 8-12 hours per week during the academic year.
Salary $10.50 per hour

Required qualifications

  • Preferred, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification

  • Past experience as a swim instructor at an aquatic facility

  • Thorough knowledge and application of teaching swimming and water safety skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Dedication to University Recreation and a desire to support its mission.
