Program Awards

Each year, Club Sport's awards are presented at the Club Sport's banquet to teams and individuals that exemplify the values of the Club Sport's program. We allow open nominations from any member of Club Sports and the Club Sports Council votes to determine the winners.


Rich and Tasse Little Club Sports Team of the Year

The Club Sports Team of the Year is a team that exhibits excellence in every aspect of their sport. As such, this team is competitive on the field of play and is at the forefront of the Appalachian State University Club Sports community off the field.

Criteria:

  • Competitive in the sport (strive to excel in all games/matches regardless of outcome)
  • Participate in CS Opportunities (community service, team unity, council, etc.)
  • Cohesive leadership (all officers have a responsibility in running the team)
  • Sportsmanship (positive representation of App State both on and off the field of play)
  • Sustainable/Resourceful (proper use of time in facilities, budget and equipment)
  • Club in Good Standing (not in probationary, attend all required meetings such as council, conferences, and have turned in all paperwork (MIC’s, Travel Forms, Comp reports, etc., on time)

Turn-Around Team of the Year

The Turn-Around Team of the Year is a team that has shown drastic improvement in the past year from their prior performance(s). They have exhibited to Club Sports leadership that they want to leave a lasting legacy on the program as a whole. They are doing this on the field and off, organizing events, winning competitions and overall taking a more active role as leaders.

Criteria:

  • Record Improvement (the team needs to show improvement, but they don’t have to "win it all" to qualify)
  • Growth in Leadership (all officers are involved in the team’s activities, are easily approachable by CS leadership and are visible members of their team, i.e., leaders on and off the field)
  • Increase in Membership (the team should show growth in membership, at the least they should not be losing large numbers of members)
  • Increase in CS Involvement (team unity, community service events, etc.)
  • Impact on the Team (noticeable change in team policies, activities, etc. that has a positive effect on the team)
  • Team in Good Standing (not in probationary, attend all required meetings such as council, conferences, and have turned in all paperwork, i.e., MIC’s, Travel Forms, Comp reports, etc.,on time)

Officer of the Year

The Officer of the Year is an individual who lives out the values of Club Sports; they are highly motivated, competitive and ready to lead. This Officer is a competitor on the field of play and is a highly visible member of the Appalachian State University Club Sports program.

Criteria:

  • Organized (Turns in required paperwork and is punctual when attending meetings with CS. This officer can be relied on to get a job done in a timely manner on their own)
  • Involved (Visible member of the CS organization, attends CS events and makes a point to be a part of the whole program and their team)
  • Transparent to Membership (Professionally, and in an organized manner, keeps officers and club membership up to date with team activity)
  • Regular attendance at games and practice
  • Held position all year (voted in at the end of spring and served both following fall and spring semester)
  • Innovative/Above and Beyond (make a positive contribution to the forward progression of their team, and accomplishes more than the standard officer)
  • Good Standing (This requires that the officer’s team is in good standing, i.e., not in probationary, attend all required meetings such as council, conferences and have turned in all paperwork: MIC’s, Travel Forms, Comp reports, etc., on time)

Voting Timeline

  • Nominations can be made by any member of Club Sports starting the first council meeting in March and closing by 5pm the following Friday
  • The nominee is then responsible for filling out the provided information sheet to be submitted by the last council meeting in March
  • Voting will occur at the first council meeting in April

Voting Method

  • All teams in good standing will be allowed to participate
  • Council members will receive hard copies of the nominee information for review at the first council meeting in April
  • Council members will rank all nominees from 1-n
  • The nominee with the lowest score will be deemed the award winner
  • The winner will be announced at Banquet
