Participant Policies

General Weight Room Policies

Food: Food is not permitted into the weight room space.

Footwear: Athletic shoes are recommended while in the weight room. No cleats, boots, or spiked shoes are permitted in the weight room.

Re-racking Weights: Participants should do their best to re-rack plate weights, dumbbells, and other attachments. This allows each participant the opportunity to select the weight they desire and keeps the space free from tripping hazards.

Clips: The use of clips is mandatory on all free weight barbell lifts in which a weight plate is used and has the potential to shift or fall off during movement.

Cleaning: Participants should clean up their sweat and equipment after they are done using equipment.

Equipment: Equipment should always remain inside the weight room space.

Chalk: Liquid chalk is allowed but powdered chalk is not to be used.

Walkways: Please make sure all walkways around the weight room are clear of any equipment. In case of an emergency, there will be a need for clear walkways to exit the facility in a quick manner.

Conduct: Participants are expected to be respectful during their time engaging in the weight rooms. This includes the correct use of equipment and fair treatment to other participants and UREC staff.

Olympic Lifting: Due to the nature of the lifts, Olympic lifting is only permissible in the Quinn Recreation Center weight room.
