Staying Active on the App State Campus
Staying physically active at App State is easier than ever. With access to hiking trails, bike paths, rolling hills, and top-tier facilities, movement is at our fingertips. Keeping your body moving is key to maintaining overall health, and App State offers countless opportunities to do just that.
Our campus is home to four recreation centers, each offering unique features to keep students engaged and active.
Student Recreation Center (SRC)
The Student Recreation Center, commonly known as the SRC, is the largest fitness facility on campus, featuring three spacious floors:
- First Floor: Includes an Olympic-sized swimming pool available for free swim and group fitness classes like paddleboard yoga. You'll also find basketball courts, the outing center, and a climbing wall.
- Second Floor: Home to a weight room, an indoor track, and the popular “Zen Room,” where students can stretch, work out, or join a variety of group fitness classes.
- Third Floor: Recently renovated, this level features cardio equipment, volleyball courts, and pickleball courts.
Dwight W. Quinn Recreation Center
Located across from the football stadium, the Quinn Rec Center is the second-largest fitness facility on campus.
- Upon entering, you’ll find a weight room on the left and an aerobics floor on the right. Quinn is the only facility on campus available to students that allows olympic lifting.
- The aerobics floor hosts a variety of energetic group fitness classes such as AppStrong, Twerk n’ Tone, and more.
- A dedicated cycle studio is available exclusively for cycle classes.
- Racquetball courts line both sides of the gym, and there’s also a functional training room, nicknamed the "Fun Room."
Mt. Mitchell Fitness Center
Located on the third floor of Plemmons Student Union, Mt. Mitchell is a convenient option for a quick workout between classes.
- It offers a wide range of cardio equipment, a smaller weight section, and a group fitness studio.
- Whether you’re looking to walk on the treadmill, lift weights, or take a class, Mt. Mitchell is a flexible space to meet your needs.
Hickory Fitness Center
Located in the basement of the Hickory campus, this gym offers a variety of fitness opportunities for students.
- It offers a wide range of cardio equipment and a smaller weight section.
- Whether you’re looking to walk on the treadmill or lift weights it is a flexible space to meet your needs at the Hickory campus.
Online Resources
Campus Recreation now offers Les Mills+ online resources for at-home workouts! Starting with a free 30 day trial, you have the opportunity to try it out and see if it's the right system for you. The App State community receives a 33% discount after the 30 day trial.
With so many resources available, every student can find a way to stay active, whether it’s walking across campus, lifting weights, or joining group fitness classes. Remember: it’s recommended to get at least 150 minutes of exercise per week according to the American Heart Association. So get moving, we can’t wait to see you in our facilities!
