Fitness & Wellness Positions

Positions are at the Student Recreation Center and/or the Quinn Recreation Center. The Assistant Director for Fitness & Wellness supervises each position.

Group Exercise Instructor
Summary This fitness leadership position is designed to allow outstanding instructors the opportunity to gain valuable communication and analytical skills through providing constructive feedback for the continued growth and development of peer instructors and assistants. This position additionally ensures all instructors and their classes are meeting minimum standards and guidelines set by the Assistant Director for Fitness & Wellness. Routine cleaning and disinfecting procedures will be conducted regularly. The ideal evaluation team will have appropriate representatives for each of our major format categories (cardio, strength, mind/body, and cycle). Evaluation team members possess a genuine desire to move more Mountaineers!
Hours

Based on class schedule. Minimum of one class per week.

Salary $8.25 per hour
Duties Group Exercise Assistant/Instructor Duties
Required qualifications
  • Successfully pass a fitness audition with the Assistant Director for Fitness and Fitness Leadership team.
  • Preference given to individuals who currently hold a valid group fitness certification through ACE, NASM, ACSM or similar accrediting organization.
Personal Trainer
Summary

Work one-on-one with clients to provide fitness assessments, consultation and training sessions in order to help participants meet fitness goals, as well as provide instruction on safe work out techniques. Personal Trainers are expected to supervise and assist in the improvement of their client's well-being through motivation and education.

Hours

Based on class schedule. 

Salary $8.25 per hour

Required qualifications
  • Must be currently certified through (or be willing to be certified within a semester’s time) in one of the following certifying entities: ACSM, ACE, NASM or similar organization.
Weight Room Attendant
Summary

The Weight Room Attendant position assists in enforcing all policies and guidelines set by University Recreation. This position requires individuals to be friendly and approachable as they will serve as the first person that participants turn to for questions about policies, the weight room, and the various equipment within. These individuals should be organized, reliable, and have strong communication skills. It is also important for candidates to be knowledgeable in basic exercise terminology and exercise equipment to be able to recommend and demonstrate safe lifting technique to satisfactory standards set by the Fitness & Wellness leadership team. Routine cleaning and disinfecting procedures will be conducted regularly. Professionalism, strong oral and written communication skills, responsibility, dependability, maturity, and visibility are keys for success. This position requires successful candidates to be dedicated to moving Mountaineers toward greater health and well-being!

Hours

Based on class schedule. Minimum of 8-10 hours per week.

Salary $7.65 per hour

Required qualifications
  • Possess the ability to positively interact with participants, professional staff, and coworkers in a welcoming manner.
  • Proven basic understanding of exercise equipment and safe use.
  • Must be able to lift 45 lbs unassisted.
