Outdoor Equipment Rental

Equipment is available to rent when the Outing Center is open. Click here for hours. Most equipment is the same rate for 1-4 days of use with an additional fee for any days beyond 4. We accept cash, check, and credit/debit card payments.
For equipment rentals over 31 days, please call the Outing Center at (828) 262-4077 to ensure availability.

Refund Policy

Please be aware that all refunds MUST have manager approval and cannot happen on the spot. Once equipment has been reserved or rented equipment has left our building, we cannot provide a refund. If your refund is approved, the refund will take at least one week to process. We do not provide refunds for equipment that was reserved or rented and never used.

How to Rent Equipment

Option 1: Walk-In Equipment Rentals

  • Walk into the Outing Center located in the Student Recreation Center during operating hours and discuss your needs for equipment with the staff. You will pay for equipment and leave with the items rented.
  • Must arrive at least 30 minutes prior to closing.
  • Please be aware that we have a limited supply of equipment.

Option 2: Reserve Equipment in Advance

  • Reservations can be made up to one week in advance by walking into the Outing Center located at the Student Recreation Center during operating hours and discussing with the staff your needs for reservation.
  • Must arrive at least 30 minutes prior to closing.
  • Reservations can ONLY be made with credit/debit card payment.
  • You will pay for the total amount of your rental at the time you make the reservation, but you will only pay for the days in which you actually have possession of the equipment.
  • Bring your equipment reservation confirmation on the day selected to pick up equipment. This should only take about 20 minutes.
  • Equipment that has not been paid for by the scheduled pick-up date will be returned to circulation. Equipment that was paid for but not picked-up by the time we close on the scheduled pick-up date will be returned to circulation. We do not provide refunds for equipment that was reserved but never picked-up.
How to Return Equipment:
  • Plan a 30 minute window in which you can return your equipment at least 30 minutes prior to closure on the day equipment is due.
  • Assist staff in cleaning/disinfecting of your equipment as directed.
  • You are good to go!

  • Description: Includes pack. 55 liter main body with additional 10 liter brain. Internal frame and adjustable straps

  • Description: Includes a can with the lid. Need a coin, screwdriver, or something of the sort to lock the can

  • Student Rate: $4 for 1-4 days, $1 for each additional day
  • App State Affiliate Rate: $6.00 for 1-4 days, $2 for each additional day
  • Description: Crazy Creek camp chair, great for camping, backpacking or just sitting outside.

CanoeCanoe

  • Student Rate: $16 for next day rentals, due back the following day
  • App State Affiliate Rate: $21 for next day rentals, due back the following day
  • Description: Includes canoe, personal flotation device(s), paddle(s), NRS Straps. You will be responsible for bringing an appropriate vehicle for pick-up (roof racks with cross-bars). You will be responsible for the loading and tie-down of canoe. Staff reserves the right to decline the rental if there is not an appropriate vehicle used for pick up.

Cook SetCook Sets (Glacier Stainless & MSR)

  • Student Rate: $7 for 1-4 days, $2 for each additional day
  • App State Affiliate Rate: $9 for 1-4 days, $3 for each additional day
  • Description: Includes 1.5 quart pot, 1 quart pot, 2 dual-use frying pans/lids, pot gripper, and stuff sack.

  • Student Rate: $8 for 1-4 days, $2 for each additional day
  • App State Affiliate Rate: $10 for 1-4 days, $3 for each additional day
  • Description: Igloo Cooler, Hard Insulated, 54 and 70 Quart options 

Crash PadCrash Pad

  • Student Rate: $10 for next day rentals, due back the following day
  • App State Affiliate Rate: $12 for next day rentals, due back the following day
  • Description: Includes one crash pad with dense, multi-layer foam for optimal impact absorption. Its rugged outer shell resists abrasions and tough landings, while easy-carry shoulder and waist straps make hiking out a breeze. The foldable design ensures compact storage without compromising coverage when fully opened.

  • Description: Includes a hammock and Atlas Suspension straps. Single and two person options available. Weight capacity of 400lbs.

  • Description: Includes 1 Therm-a-rest RidgeRest foam sleeping pad. Available in regular and narrow (suited for backpacking) sizes. Purpose is to insulate body from the ground and is essential year round.
