Title: Outing Center Operations
Reports To:  Associate Director & Coordinator for Outdoor Programs
Hours:

Based on class schedule. Minimum of 8 hours per week.

Position Summary: Outing Center Staff are the face of Outdoor Programs to the Appalachian State University community. Staff provide quality customer service to guests working to accurately answer all questions regarding Outdoor Programs. Staff complete administrative tasks including: overseeing the climbing wall registration process, renting and maintaining outdoor gear, and signing participants up for Outdoor Programs trips, clinics, and workshops. Routine cleaning and disinfecting procedures will be conducted regularly.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • General maintenance of the facility including general organization and inspection of equipment, inventory, and cleaning.
  • Complete Opening and Closing procedures and inspections.
  • Maintain and update the Climbing Wall Database and register new climbers.
  • Maintain and update the Trip Sign-Up Database.
  • Promote a safe and equitable environment for all participants.
  • Know and adhere to policies and procedures in order to manage risks and provide quality customer service.
  • Notify a supervisor when there is an unusual rental situation or gear is broken.
  • Contact a Facility Supervisor in a timely fashion for emergency situations.
  • Rent gear to customers including properly completing and filing rental agreements.
  • Maintain knowledge of Outdoor Program events and programs as well as a basic knowledge of UREC with an ability to effectively communicate this with customers.
  • Be on time with arriving and departing from your scheduled shift unless you have coordinated a sub who is working in your place.
  • Be able to complete tasks efficiently and without close supervision.
  • Deep cleaning of all equipment throughout shifts worked and especially at specified designated cleaning times.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications include:

  • Motivation to learn many aspects of UREC and Outdoor Programs in order to provide quality customer service.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work with a variety of customers.

Condition of Employment:

  • Attendance at Staff Training and Staff In-services.
  • Available to work up to seven days per week and have flexibility for morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts.
  • Outdoor Programs staff should consider their positions with UREC as their first non-academic priority.
  • Ability to maintain and enforce policies and procedures.
  • Outing Center Operations staff must abide by all University Recreation policies and procedures on and off the clock.

Salary: $7.65 per hour
