Equipment Checkout

GENERAL POLICIES

  • You must have a valid membership or be an approved guest to check out equipment.

  • By presenting your AppCard or by scanning in using your UREC app, you can check out equipment from specified locations (see below).

  • In general, equipment must be returned before the posted closing time of the facility where you checked it out.

  • You will be charged for the equipment you check out if it is not returned by the posted closing time or if it is damaged.

Equipment Available for use without charge in the Weight Room and Cardio Areas at Mt. Mitchell, Quinn, and the Student Recreation Center:

Dip Belt:  A belt used to add a weighted plate to during a dip exercise
Weightlifting Belt:  A belt used to add pressure around your core to support your low back during lifts such as the barbell squat and deadlift 
Super band:  A thinner resistance band to add resistance to body weight exercises 
Therapy band:  A thicker resistance band to add resistance to body weight exercises used for upper-body movements 
Small resistance bands:  A circular light resistance band that goes around your knees 
Wrist wraps:  A Velcro wrap used to support your wrists when doing movements such as the bench press or lat pull downs 
Wrist straps:  Straps used to help your grip by locking hands into the barbell/other weight with the strap 
Barbell neck pad:  A pad used to cover the portion of the barbell that goes on your neck when doing a barbell squat, it can also be used to cushion the barbell on your hips when doing the barbell hip-thruster exercise 
Ankle straps:  Straps used to connect your ankle to the cables in the gym for certain exercises
Pedal straps:  Straps used to attach your foot to the pedals on a stationary bike 
Ab rollers: A mini-wheel with hand grips on each side that can help strengthen your abdominal muscles
Step-up:  A little box that can be used for box-jumps 
Yoga mat:  A rubber mat that is more comfortable to do exercises on than the hard floor

  Upper Body Swim Equipment

  • Pull buoy:  used to create extra buoyancy for your hips.  A pull buoy can help you to focus on your stroke, build core strength, etc.
  • Dumbbells: used in water aerobics and for physical therapy.  Because water dumbbells are buoyant, it is challenging to keep them submerged.  This provides resistance training.
  • Barbells:  used to provide stability and help keep your body and face close to the water while learning to swim.  Used in water aerobics and for physical therapy.
  • Hand paddles:  used to develop upper body strength.  A hand paddle allows you to pull with more power.

 Lower Body Swim Equipment

  • Kickboard:  using a kickboard allows you to rest your arms while kicking through the water.  You may use a kickboard to improve the strength and efficiency of your kick.
  • Jogger buoyancy belt:  used for water fitness, aquatic therapy, etc.  The jogger belt suspends your body at shoulder level in deep water, allowing for movement under water.
  • Fins:  used to help swimmers develop a more powerful kick, improve ankle flexibility, etc.
  • Zoomers:  a fin that is designed to mimic a barefoot better than standard fins.  Zoomers provide resistance training and are used for aerobic workouts.

Water Polo

  • Water polo ball:  water polo is a team sport played in the water between two teams of seven players each.  The teams attempt to score goals by throwing the ball into the opposing team’s goal.
  • Water polo cap:  a water polo cap has protective coverings that go over a player’s ear and protects them from injury in the event that there is contact to the head.  Used to identify which team the player is on.
  • Inner tubes:  (swimming rings), inner tubes are inflated with air and worn around your torso to help hold you above water. Used for Inner Tube Water Polo

Exercise Classes

  • Aqua step:  a step used for aquatic exercise.  Used in or out of the water.
  • Noodles:  a cylindrical piece of flexible, buoyant foam.  Used for floating, exercise and for water play. 
  • SUP (Stand Up Paddleboards:   Used for SUP Yoga classes

Other  

  • Kayak:  a small, narrow watercraft with a small opening in the top for you to sit in.
  • Personal Floatation Device (PFD):  (lifejackets) used to give you more buoyancy to help you stay afloat in water. Required for Weak Swimmers
  • Floatation Belts 1,2,3, bubbles: Recommended for Weak Swimmers
  • Toys:  miscellaneous toys are available for you to use while recreating in the pool at the SRC.
