Bike App Operations

 

Title: Bike App Operations
Reports To: Associate Director & Coordinator for Outdoor Programs
Hours: As needed during certain weeks of the year.

Position Summary: Bike App Operations staff's primary responsibility is to provide bike maintenance and instruction to patrons. Bike App focuses on promoting bicycle use and education while providing bike services. Staff educate and instruct patrons while helping to maintain bicycles

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • General maintenance of the facility including general organization and inspection of equipment, inventory, and cleaning.
  • Complete Opening and Closing procedures and inspections.
  • Maintain and update the Bike App Database.
  • Promote a safe and equitable environment for all patrons.
  • Know and adhere to policies and procedures in order to manage risks and provide quality customer service.
  • Notify a supervisor when there is an unusual situation or equipment needs attention.
  • Repair and maintain bicycles and unicycles.
  • Teach patrons about bike repairs while helping to maintain/fix their bicycle.
  • Teach instructional cycling workshops.
  • Maintain basic knowledge of Outdoor Program events and programs as well as a basic knowledge of UREC with an ability to effectively communicate this with customers.
  • Be on time with arriving and departing from your scheduled shift unless you have coordinated a sub who is working in your place.
  • Be able to complete tasks efficiently and without close supervision.
  • Deep cleaning of all equipment throughout shifts worked and especially at specified designated cleaning times.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications include:

  • Basic bike maintenance skills (change a flat, adjust brakes, adjust gears) with willingness to learn additional bike maintenance skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work with a variety of customers.
  • Cycling knowledge including laws related to cycling within the Boone region.

Condition of Employment:

  • Attendance at Staff Training and Staff In-services.
  • Available to work up to 5 days per week and have flexibility for morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts.
  • Outdoor Programs staff should consider their positions with UREC as their first non-academic priority.
  • Ability to maintain and enforce policies and procedures.
  • Bike App Operations stff must abide by all University Recreation policies and procedures on and off the clock.

Salary: $8.00-$8.25 per hour.
