Team Development Course Facilitator

 

Title: Team Development Course Facilitator
Reports To: Associate Director & Coordinator for Outdoor Programs
Hours:

Based on class schedule.

Position Summary: We provide a low to the ground rescue scenario where a group member is packaged as a patient in a rescue litter and carried across an obstacle course with progressively harder challenges. The TDC includes a standard progression from leisure style games to complex initiatives meant to invite an advanced level of conflict and extensive support for meeting conflict in a healthy and helpful manner. Programs are objective-driven based on information received about the group’s goals when a group leader books the course. Facilitators are expected to connect group experiences directly to group objectives. Group size: 8-30. Time commitment: Typically 5 hours total including time for prep and staff reflection. Routine cleaning and disinfecting procedures will be conducted regularly. 

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Deep cleaning of all equipment throughout shifts worked and especially at specified designated cleaning times.

Facilitator Level I:

  • Able to lead an entire program progression including: welcome, explanation of expectations, framing the experience, the TDC events and a 10-20 minute final group reflection/debrief
  • Able to anticipate, identify and mitigate safety concerns
  • Supports the leadership of advanced facilitators
  • Knowledgeable of all opening and closing procedures
  • Familiar with clipboard forms and emergency procedures
  • Demonstrated and reliable strength in necessary skills and attributes as defined above

Facilitator Level II:

  • Meets the skills and abilities of the Facilitator Level I
  • Able to pause the group activity at appropriate times to make helpful observations as well as posing thought provoking questions throughout the experience
  • Able to confidently coordinate and direct staff team
  • Able to make and communicate adjustments to the progression based on changing needs related to objectives, weather, staff abilities, medical considerations, etc.

Required Qualifications and Expectations include:

  • Professional in communication, appearance and attitude.
  • Commitment to feedback.
  • Passion for making meaning of experiences through thoughtful, guided reflection.
  • Ability to connect role of challenge courses to mental health and wellness.
  • Maintain current certifications in First Aid (or higher), CPR for the Professional Rescuer and NC Epinephrine Administration.
  • Attend 1-2 day kickoff staff training at the beginning of each semester facilitator plans to work.
  • Respond quickly to communication (phone, text, email).
  • Facilitators are expected to wear athletic clothing in good repair with closed toe/closed heel shoes.
  • Demonstrated responsiveness to verbal and written feedback.
  • Respond in emergency situation according to standard of care identified by required certifications.

Salary: $8.75 per hour
