About Us

University Recreation provides structured and unstructured leisure time activities for students. It is through these activities that students learn life-long skills that contribute to their social, physical, emotional, and intellectual growth and development. University Recreation also serves as a laboratory for training in Recreation Management and related fields. Additionally, University Recreation is responsible for scheduling various athletic and recreational facilities.

Mission

We are the playground for App State students to develop strength in mind, body, and character.

UREC offers a variety of aquatic activities for both the students and community members of Boone.

Club Sports offers a wide range of sports (some of which are not offered through either varsity or intramural sports) in order to meet the competitive athletic desires of both App State students and staff.
App State's Fitness program is designed to assist students in establishing a healthy lifestyle and is committed to helping participants improve their quality of life.
Intramural activities offer the opportunity for students to compete against their peers in a friendly and structured environment. In all events, we emphasize sportsmanship and fair play.

Outdoor Program's mission is to promote discovery through student-powered adventure. OP sponsors trips and clinics designed for beginning and advanced adventurers.

Facilities

UREC oversees five (5) facilities: the Student Recreation Center, Quinn Recreation Center, Mt. Mitchell Fitness Center, State Farm Fields, and Broadstone.
