UREC Academy Leader Job Description

Title: UREC Academy Leader
Reports to: Assistant Director for Informal Recreation
Hours: Must be available on weekends for 1-3 hour time periods.  Hours are dependent on personal training participants and group scheduled trainings.

Position Summary: UREC Academy Leaders teach, coach, and instruct young athletes about the fundamental knowledge and skills of basketball, soccer, or volleyball.  They develop and participate in drills, games, and skills with the youth to improve their athletic performance.  They are responsible for communicating with parents/guardians on a regular basis to greet, direct, and inform them on progress of their athlete. 

Specific Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop individualized and group plans for participants
  • Provide instruction and demonstration of skills for the sport they are teaching
  • Ensure participant safety and care throughout the sessions and respond to emergencies by notifying the Facility Supervisor on-duty
  • Ensure the proper use and care of equipment
  • Develop work ethic, teamwork, confidence and understanding to improve individual abilities
  • Utilize visual, written and physical movement during sessions to heighten conception of learning
  • Act as a positive role model for all participants
  • Record keeping of sessions completed
  • Indicate progress and create individual progress reports for each athlete
  • Other related duties as assigned or requested

Qualifications for Hire:

  • To be considered as an Academy Leader, one needs to have a strong background in any of the three sports and have good interpersonal skills with young athletes
  • Experience with working with youth in a recreation setting
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Good time management skills
  • General knowledge in all areas of Recreation
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of UREC’s policies and procedures and the ability to enforce them
  • Dedication to University Recreation and a desire to support its mission

Condition of Employment:

  • Accepted candidate will be notified of their position and be required to attend a mandatory training session for their position.
  • The Academy Leader should consider this position as their first non-academic priority. To fulfill the responsibilities of the job, and to successfully serve the needs of University Recreation and its employees.

Salary: $8.00 - $10.00 per hour
