  • Glass containers, tobacco products, gum, alcoholic beverages, pets, and bikes
  • Cleats or spikes footwear.
  • Cell phone use in any of the restrooms or locker rooms.
  • Use of cameras for taking photos or video.

General Use

  • Equipment should always remain inside the weight room space (unless taken for use by a Personal Trainer or other verified UREC staff member for work purposes).
  • UREC staff are available to provide spotting. We encourage students to take this protective measure on max lifts.
  • Liquid chalk is allowed, but powdered chalk is not to be used.
  • Participants should do their best to re-rack plate weights, dumbbells, and other attachments. This allows each participant to select their desired weight and keeps the space free from tripping hazards.
  • Participants should also clean up their sweat and equipment after using the equipment.
  • The use of clips is mandatory on all free-weight barbell lifts in which a weight plate is used and has the potential to shift or fall off during movement.
  • Athletic shoes are recommended while in the weight room.
  • Please make sure walkways around the weight room are clear of any equipment.
  • Participants are expected to be respectful while engaging in the weight rooms. That includes correctly using equipment and fair treatment to other participants and UREC staff.
  • Due to the nature of the lifts, Olympic lifting is only permissible in the Quinn Recreation weight room.
  • Minimize dropping weight excessively.
  • Please keep weights clear of windows and mirrors.
  • Guests & dependents must be at least 16 years of age to be in the Weight Room.
  • All users must be at least 16 years of age or older.
