Mt. Mitchell Fitness Centre Policies

Participants must present a valid app card or download the UREC app for admittance to the recreation facilities.

The following is prohibited:

  • Food or drinks in an open container (i.e. cup).
  • Glass containers, tobacco products, gum, alcoholic beverages, pets, and bikes.
  • Cleats or spikes footwear.
  • Cell phone use in any of the restrooms or locker rooms.
  • Use of cameras for taking photos or video.

Guests & Dependents

  • Guests and dependents under 18 years of age must have appropriate adult supervision while in the facility. Parent/Guardian must remain in the facility at all times.
  • Host/Sponsors are responsible for the actions of their guests.

General Use of Facilities

  • To participate, all UREC participants (student staff, faculty, and guests) must have a current Liability and Consent Waiver form on file. Waivers are valid for five years.
  • Closed-toe/closed-heel is required at all activity areas (except for the swimming pool). 
  • Lockers and cubbies are available for day use only.  Locks will be cut and items removed nightly.
  • Personal belongings (wallets, keys, water bottles/containers, bags, clothes, cell phones, etc.) cannot be stored other than in lockers. Lockers and cubbies are available for all personal belongings while exercising in the facility.
  • Equipment and facilities should be used for their intended purposes. Modification is prohibited. Please report equipment malfunction or damage to a Facility Supervisor on duty.
  • Weights are not to be dropped or slammed.
  • Re-rack all dumbbells and attachments after each use.
  • Please wipe down equipment before and after each use.
  • 30-minute time limit on a Cardio machine while others are waiting.
  • Any space reservations can be made through the University Recreation Office prior to an activity.
  • Participants must be at least 12 years old to use any cardio equipment.

Please Note

  • Any violation of the policies listed above or those set forth by University Recreation may be grounds for removal from the facilities.
  • Closed-circuit cameras are monitoring all UREC facilities.
  • University Recreation is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items. (Please turn in any found items to a Facility Supervisor on duty).
